Most waste disposal problems tend to build gradually, until one day the unit stops mid-use or starts making a sound it definitely shouldn’t. Here are some of the most common issues we’re called out to repair:

• Unit won’t power on: This could be down to a blown fuse, tripped circuit breaker, faulty air switch or damaged internal wiring. 
• Jammed grinding chamber: Bones, fibrous food scraps or cutlery fragments can lock up the flywheel or shredder ring, stopping the unit from spinning
• Leaking from underneath: Water dripping from the base is usually linked to cracked housings, worn gaskets or deteriorated seals around the sink flange or mounting assembly. 
• Humming without spinning: If the unit hums but doesn’t rotate, it’s often a sign that the flywheel is obstructed or the motor capacitor is failing. Both require prompt attention to prevent overheating.
• Loud rattling or grinding noises: These may indicate a foreign object caught in the chamber, worn bearings, or internal component misalignment. If ignored, they can quickly escalate into full motor failure.
• Slow drainage or unpleasant smells: Grease buildup, decaying food particles or a compromised splash guard can restrict water flow and cause bad odours.
